What is SPC Click Herringbone flooring?

SPC stands for Stone Plastic Composite. “Herringbone” refers to the V-shaped fishbone parquet layout, while “Click” means the interlocking floating installation system.

It consists of two mirrored tile sizes (A & B) to form classic herringbone patterns. With rigid stone-plastic core and durable wear layer, it combines the elegant look of hardwood parquet with waterproof and scratch-resistant advantages. It is divided into residential and commercial grades.

Does Herringbone Layout Visually Enlarge or Shrink a Room?

The herringbone pattern alone will not automatically make a space look bigger or smaller. Instead, the visual perception of room size depends on plank dimensions and installation direction.

When the herringbone planks run parallel to the room’s longest wall, they create a visual trick that stretches the space, making it feel longer and more open. In contrast, laying planks perpendicular to the longest wall will make the room appear tighter and narrower.

In terms of plank sizing: wider, larger herringbone planks minimize visible seam lines and reduce visual clutter, which expands the perceived space.

SPC Herringbone FAQ

  • Residential grade: 5–6 mm total thickness, 0.3 mm (12 mil) wear layer, AC3 abrasion class, ideal for living rooms and bedrooms.
  • Heavy commercial grade: 6.5–8 mm total thickness, 0.5 mm (20 mil+) wear layer, AC4/AC5 abrasion class, suitable for shops, hallways, kitchens and pet areas.

Yes. The SPC core absorbs zero water and will not swell or get moldy. Its tight click joints block liquid penetration. For wet zones like kitchens and bathrooms, apply flexible silicone sealant along wall edges and pipe openings for extra waterproofing. A moisture barrier underlay is recommended for basement installation. It works perfectly in humid climates, ground-floor rooms and rainy seasons.

Qualified products contain zero formaldehyde and meet EU E0/E1 and US FloorScore low-VOC standards. The anti-slip top layer resists scratches from pet claws. No harsh chemical odors, safe for nurseries and family spaces.

  1. Installation: SPC uses click floating system, no glue or nails required, fast construction. Solid wood parquet needs full glue or nailing, complex and costly to lay.
  2. Stability: SPC stays unchanged under humidity and temperature shifts; solid wood easily shrinks, gaps or arches when damp.
  3. Cost: SPC herringbone is far more affordable than solid wood parquet.
  4. Maintenance: SPC only needs daily mopping; solid wood requires regular sanding and refinishing.
