Disruption is growing to shipping and logistics as Shanghai’s lockdown continues. More than 90% of trucks supporting import and export deliveries are out of action because of the restrictions. Trucks are prevented from moving in and out of the city without a special permit, which is only valid for 24 hours and only on specific routes.Limited truck access to Shanghai port terminals is causing shipping containers to pile up and slowing ship transfers.
Meanwhile,terminals at many neighboring ports around Shanghai are filling up and facing equipment shortages as more freight is diverted from Shanghai. Freight rates are rising as a result. At present, due to anti-epidemic measures, road transport has lost its advantage of speed.
